Erika de Casier crafts a sensual blend of pop and R&B. Operating out of Copenhagen as a singer, songwriter, and producer, she entered the solo arena with modest impact in 2019 through the self-issued Essentials, which secured a contract with 4AD. Her first project on that imprint surfaced in 2021 as the billowy Sensational. The more narrative and organic Still arrived in 2024, led by the drum'n'bass ballad "Lucky," at which stage she had already supplied songwriting for other acts, among them NewJeans' number one South Korean pop hit "Super Shy."

Portuguese-born de Casier took piano lessons and sang in a choir during her upbringing in Denmark, although library CDs fueled her creativity more than romantic disappointment. She experimented with music production software and gradually grew at ease behind the microphone. Her solo bow came in 2017 with the self-written, self-produced, and self-released "What U Wanna Do?," a ballad recalling late-'90s contemporary R&B. Several further singles preceded the May 2019 release of the broader and dreamlike Essentials, which drew acclaim from outlets across Denmark and beyond. The next October, 4AD disclosed its signing of de Casier, whose concurrent label debut arrived via the Natal Zaks collaboration "No Butterflies, No Nothing." Additional tracks built toward the May 2021 arrival of Sensational, which collected year-end recognition from publications such as The Guardian and Pitchfork. After issuing The Sensational Remixes, de Casier stayed relatively quiet for a period, though she co-wrote material in 2022 and 2023 for Danish singer Jada ("s.e.x.y.o.m.g.") and K-pop group NewJeans (including the chart-topping "Super Shy" and Top 20 follow-up "Cool with You"). She resurfaced in January 2024 with the Zaks co-production "Lucky," the lead single from her second album. Still, which merges sample-based material and extensive live instrumentation, emerged the following month and featured contributions from Blood Orange, Shygirl, and Sensational Remixes participants They Hate Change.
