Biography
Freedom Hawk originated in 2003 in the Virginia Beach, Virginia vicinity, where vocalist and guitarist T.R. Morton, bassist Mark Cave, and drummer Lenny Hines initiated their earliest jam sessions, although the band's music unmistakably channels the hard rock aesthetic of the 1970s. Guitarist Matt Cave, Mark's brother, came aboard in 2004, prompting focused rehearsals and performances that yielded the independent debut album Sunlight in 2008 and an eponymous mini-LP issued by Meteor City the following year. Positive reviews of both recordings expanded the group's following, drawing the attention of Small Stone, a leading stoner rock label, which released the third album Holding On in summer 2011.
