Biography
From Zero treads a precarious sonic path that fuses the raw aggression of alternative metal with its more tuneful side. The group demonstrates its technical command and creative authority via compact, forceful compositions that fuse vivid, emotionally charged words with driving guitar propulsion.
The Chicago-based outfit came together in 1998 and staged its debut concert the same year, quickly building momentum. Its origins, however, stretch to the early 1990s, when guitarists Joe Pettinato and Rob Ruccia on bass first connected with drummer Kid through separate local projects in the Windy City. After vocalist Jett joined them a few months later, the three parted company with their prior singer. Guitarist Peter Capizzi, who had previously worked alongside Jett in another area band, soon rounded out the final lineup. The founding members’ accumulated stage experience, paired with Jett’s songwriting perspective and studio skill, produced immediate cohesion, enabling the band’s musical direction to develop without interruption.
In 1999 From Zero issued its debut recording, the self-titled EP From Zero, and began opening for groups such as Disturbed and Nothingface. Two years later the band signed with Arista and devoted the next stretch of time to completing its first full-length album, 2001’s One Nation Under.
