Italian singer Giorgio Gaber first took up the guitar at fifteen on a physician’s advice meant to ward off paralysis, an instruction that soon evolved into a lifelong musical devotion. Following his studies in economy and commerce, he chose to pursue a career as a vocalist. A set of appearances at Milan’s Santa Tecla club quickly led to a recording contract and the release of a four-track EP that included “Cia Ti Diro.” Giorgio Gaber made his initial appearance at the San Remo festival in 1961, performing the song “Benzina E Cerini.” His debut album, Il Signor G, appeared in 1970; the project originated from a stage musical that enjoyed successful runs throughout 1970 and 1971. Subsequent releases included I Borghesi and the live recording Dialogo Tra Un Impegnato E Un Non So, captured on November 6, 7, and 8, 1972. Possessing a resonant voice, Giorgio Gaber characteristically blended spoken monologue with song as his distinctive mode of expression.
