Antonello Venditti, an Italian singer and songwriter, has long expressed deep affection for Rome—the city of his birth—which surfaces repeatedly across his body of work. Drawing early influence from classical traditions, he first appeared on record in 1972, sharing an album with Francesco de Gregori that appeared under the name Theorius Campus. Two further releases, L'Orso Bruno and Le Cose Della Vita, followed in 1973. His profile rose sharply in 1975 with the album Lilly, whose title song reached the summit of Italy’s leading charts. Venditti later demonstrated his gifts as a composer by collaborating with Lucio Dalla on the score for the film Signore e Signori, Buonanotte.
