God's Hate emerged as a metallic hardcore outfit from Van Nuys, California, established jointly by Colin Young of Twitching Tongues, who handles drums, guitar, vocals, and composition, and Brody King, responsible for vocals and lyrics while also pursuing a career as a professional wrestler. Their approach fuses the classic hardcore sound rooted in the East Coast scene of the 1980s and 1990s with elements drawn from thrash and groove metal. The five-track Divine Injustice EP surfaced in 2014, followed by the Father Inferior EP in 2015. Their first full-length, Mass Murder, arrived via Closed Casket Activities in 2018 and earned widespread critical approval, which opened doors for international touring. Subsequent lineup shifts occurred once King's rising profile in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling limited his availability for the road. An extended hiatus followed when the COVID-19 pandemic halted live activity. The band resurfaced in 2022 with a self-titled second album.

Young and King, then performing under his original name Nate Blauvelt, first connected in 2012 through a mutual appreciation for East Coast hardcore acts such as Merauder, All Out War, Irate, and especially the early work of Hatebreed. They assembled an initial roster that included Cayle Sain on drums from Twitching Tongues, Anthonie Gonzalez on guitar from Constrict, and bassist Leopold Orozco of Disgrace and Twitching Tongues. This configuration cut the Divine Injustice EP, which Closed Casket Activities later handled for distribution. The group performed along the West Coast, supporting Twitching Tongues and additional acts. In the next year Orozco and Gonzalez exchanged instrumental roles, after which the revised lineup delivered the widely praised Father Inferior EP and secured further U.S. touring slots.

Following three years of road work involving God's Hate, Twitching Tongues, and the members' other projects, the band entered The Pit Recording Studio under the guidance of producer and engineer Taylor Young, Colin's brother and former vocalist in Disgrace. The resulting Mass Murder leaned heavily on the combined inspiration of Merauder and early Hatebreed, helping spark renewed attention toward those bands' initial recordings. Colin and Orozco jointly shaped its blend of intense hardcore, groove metal, and eerie film and television samples, a combination that resonated strongly with audiences. Extensive touring ensued across the United States and European festivals, where the group's explosive performances built a dedicated following.

Upon completing nearly a year of dates with God's Hate and their parallel bands, King's wrestling commitments intensified and prevented further touring. Even without him, several members returned to The Pit to lay down new material, continuing into early 2020 before the COVID-19 outbreak intervened. Orozco and Sain departed, prompting Colin to shift to drums, Taylor to join as lead guitarist while retaining his engineering, mixing, and production duties, and Gonzalez to resume guitar. The band added bassist Alec Faber from True Love, Freedom, and Twitching Tongues, along with third guitarist Martin Stewart, formerly of Terror.

This updated lineup convened at The Pit Studio in late 2020 to record the self-titled God's Hate, written primarily by Colin with additional lyric contributions from King. Issued in March 2021, the album received enthusiastic praise for its incorporation of vintage hardcore from the 1990s and early 2000s and later received a fresh vinyl pressing in April 2022.
