Biography
A soulful singer and songwriter born in Scotland yet raised with English roots, Greg Holden cultivated a distinctive brand of regional indie folk laced with gritty Americana dust while growing up in Aberdeen. He sharpened his skills across Lancashire and London before settling in New York City, where regular live YouTube sessions quickly cultivated a devoted following. In 2009 the artist issued his first full-length effort, A Word in Edgeways, on his self-run Falling Art Recordings imprint. An EP followed in 2010, and the next year he unveiled the independently issued sophomore set I Don't Believe You, financed through Kickstarter; that collection featured the international hit “The Lost Boy,” spotlighted during a key scene in the FX drama Sons of Anarchy. In 2012 Holden joined Drew Pearson to write “Home,” which later became a hit for season 11 American Idol champion Phillip Phillips. Additional placements surfaced on One Tree Hill and Private Practice, prompting a 2014 Warner Bros. contract and sessions for a third album. The resulting Greg Wells-produced release Chase the Sun reached listeners in early 2015.
