The Christian pop-punk quartet Hangnail features guitarists and vocalists Matt Wendt and Nick Radovanovic alongside vocalist, bassist, and songwriter Mike Middleton and drummer Jacob Dosemagen. These four young men combine musical skill with deep spiritual commitment. Their sound draws rhythmic drive from earlier raw metal, layers it with melodic punk rock and pop elements, and pairs the result with straightforward lyrics centered on praise, yielding an energetic style built on metal riffs and power chords.

Radovanovic and Dosemagen started performing together as Say What when each was eight. While playing in Wisconsin’s Bullen Junior High Jazz Band in 1993 they met Middleton, and the three adopted the name Hangnail. Wendt joined during high school, expanding the lineup to four.

Immediately after graduating in 1997 the band performed at the Cornerstone New Band Showcase. That appearance shifted their shows from casual enjoyment to a viable professional path. Extensive touring followed, steadily raising their profile and solidifying a dedicated audience. In 1999 they signed with BEC Records and released their self-titled debut album, which includes the tracks “Friendly Advice,” “An Apology,” “I’m Only Human,” and “Making History.”
