Biography
Hydrovibe merges the charged atmospheres of alternative metal with the unrestrained vocal force of Heather St. Marie, generating intense and high-voltage compositions supported by a commanding guitar presence. Formed in 1995, the group rapidly established itself within Los Angeles’ underground circuit. After cultivating a steady profile and cultivating an extensive, devoted following, the band enlisted Loudside Management for oversight in 1998. Fronted by St. Marie alongside guitarist and programmer Mat Dauzat, Brandon Starns on bass and keyboards, and Charlie Glisan on drums, the quartet appeared destined for prominence. In 1999, DJ 1987—previously known as DJ Lyfe during his tenure with Incubus—joined the lineup several months prior to the recording of the band’s debut demo. The group’s robust, driving melodies also drew notice from outlets such as the U.K.’s Metal Hammer, which named the demo its pick of the month in the September 2000 edition. Hydrovibe further traversed the United States as support for Dope, Soulfly, and Taproot.
