Biography
Butcher Babies emerged as a Los Angeles heavy metal outfit whose reputation rests equally on their music and on the daring physicality of their concerts. The group was originally fronted by founding vocalists Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, with the initial roster completed by guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Jason Klein, and drummer Chris Warner. Their style fused aggressive thrash and groove metal, while their live shows drew on the confrontational energy of punk legend Wendy O. Williams. The band first appeared in 2012 with a self-titled EP, then delivered their debut full-length, Goliath, the next year through Century Media. Although Goliath ventured into pop territory, the follow-up, 2015’s Take It Like a Man, returned to heavier ground and peaked at number 76 on the Top 200 Albums chart while reaching number five on the Independent Albums list.
Lilith, their third album, surfaced in late 2017 and again landed in the Top 20 on both the Independent Albums and Hard Rock charts. That same year Warner departed, with Chase Brickenden stepping in on drums. Entering the new decade the band issued a series of singles, among them the well-received “Bottom of the Bottle” and “Sleeping with the Enemy,” both of which appeared on the ambitious concept double-album Eye for an Eye.../...'Til the World's Blind. Those two records were produced by Josh Schroeder of Lorna Shore and included guest appearances from Chad Gray of Mudvayne on “This Is the Part,” Craig Mabbitt of Escape the Fate on “It's Killin' Time, Baby!,” and Andy James of Five Finger Death Punch on the radio edit of “Sleeping with the Enemy.” They also marked the first releases featuring Ricky Bonazza, who replaced Klein, and the final releases with Brickenden and Harvey, who exited in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
