Biography
Huntress operates as a heavy metal band headquartered in Highland Park, California, with operatically trained vocalist Jill "Tuesdae" Janus serving as frontwoman and founding member after relocating from upstate New York. Once settled on the West Coast she worked as a club DJ and party host under the name DJ Tuesdae in Los Angeles while also leading the all-female cover band Chelsea Girls and performing acoustic sets with Dave Navarro.
In 2009 she assembled the lineup by recruiting guitarists Blake Meahl and Ian Alden, both previously of Trigger Renegade and Professor, bassist Eric Harris of Skeletonwitch, and drummer Carl Wierzbicky of Dark Black. The group delivered its debut EP, Off with Her Head, in 2010 and followed with the single and video “Eight of Swords” the next year. Napalm Records issued the first full-length, Spell Eater, in spring 2012, after which the band embarked on worldwide touring that led to the 2013 release of Starbound Beast.
An extended run of self-headlined concerts and festival dates, including support slots with Amon Amarth, preceded entry into the studio for the third album. Co-producers Paul Fig and James A. Rota guided the sessions, during which Janus first noticed signs of declining health. With the record complete, a PledgeMusic presale began in June 2015; the following month she disclosed an early uterine cancer diagnosis that received aggressive treatment and carried a positive prognosis. The finished album, Static, reached the public in September.
