Light the Torch operates as a melodic metalcore group from Los Angeles whose members maintain connections to extreme metal projects including All Shall Perish, Killswitch Engage, Devolved, Bleeding Through, and Blood Has Been Shed. The ensemble adopted its current name in 2018 upon issuing the album Revival, then delivered the follow-up You Will Be the Death of Me three years afterward.
Devil You Know originated in 2012 when Devolved drummer John Sankey and All Shall Perish guitarist Francesco Artusato joined forces. They brought in former Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones to record a first album. Once that record was complete, the band signed with Nuclear Blast and added guitarist Roy Lev-Ari plus bassist Ryan Wombacher to handle live duties. Their opening full-length, The Beauty of Destruction, reached stores in 2014. Late 2015 brought the second album They Bleed Red, which contained the track "Stay of Execution."
Legal complications surrounding John Sankey's exit prompted Devil You Know to declare a name change in 2017. Extinction A.D. drummer Mike Sciulara came aboard, and the rebranded Light the Torch released Revival in March 2018. Early 2021 introduced the single "Wilting in the Light," setting the stage for You Will Be the Death of Me to appear later in the year.
