Formed in Atlanta during the mid-1990s, Injected stood out among the heavy yet melodic American rock acts that surfaced in the early years of the following decade. Danny Grady, handling vocals and guitar, joined forces with bassist Steve Slovisky and drummer Chris Wojtal while the three were still in high school, where they had already shared stages in various local groups. Intent on moving beyond the prevailing pop-punk sound, Grady focused on crafting songs that reflected the structural care of the Beatles and Nirvana alongside driving guitar riffs. The addition of second guitarist Jade Lemons completed the lineup, leading to the 1996 release of the Hammered & Enamored EP and several years of steady local performances that eventually secured a deal with Island Def Jam.

Butch Walker guided the recording sessions for the band’s first full-length album at Bearsville Studios in New York’s Catskill Mountains. Burn It Black appeared in 2002, entered the Billboard 200, and carried the single “Faithless” onto both the rock and alternative charts. Tracks from the album also surfaced on the soundtracks of the action films The Scorpion King, Spider-Man, and The Fast and the Furious.

After the members went their separate ways, they reconvened in May 2009 for a benefit performance. Learning of Jade Lemons’s sudden passing in April 2016 prompted Grady to issue the final recordings the two had made together. Co-produced by Grady and Kyle Spence of Harvey Milk and Kurt Vile, with Spence also supplying drums, The Truth About You came out on Slush Fund Recordings in June 2017.
