Biography
Jeff Scott Soto stands out as a versatile heavy metal and hard rock singer who has led multiple iconic acts such as Journey, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Talisman, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Brooklyn, New York, marks his birthplace, while Los Angeles, California, serves as his current home. Drawing inspiration from Sam Cooke, Steve Perry, and Freddie Mercury, he launched his recording career in the early '80s by supplying vocals for the Swedish guitar virtuoso Malmsteen's initial pair of Rising Force albums. Beyond those efforts, Soto has collaborated with Kryst the Conqueror, the fictional Steel Dragon from the 2001 musical comedy-drama film Rock Star, Joel Hoekstra, W.E.T., Brian May, Axel Rudi Pell, Takara, and additional artists. He has also issued a series of solo projects that started with the 1994 album Love Parade. Early in 2017, he teamed with keyboardist Derek Sherinian, bassist Billy Sheehan, drummer Mike Portnoy, and guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal to establish the progressive metal supergroup Sons of Apollo, which delivered its first full-length release, Psychotic Symphony, through the Sony imprint Inside Out that October.
