After connecting online through a mutual acquaintance in 2013, the London duo Kaleida—vocalist Christina Wood and synth specialist Cicely Goulder—began assembling early recordings that quickly drew strong approval from their immediate circle and wider audience. Drawing from iconic female vocalists including Kate Bush, Björk, and Loretta Lynn as well as contemporary producers such as the Haxan Cloak and Helena Hauff, their atmospheric blend of breathy synth pop secured a deal with Lex Records for the debut EP Think. Issued in 2015, that EP included its title track, which also featured in the Keanu Reeves film John Wick and substantially elevated the duo’s visibility. The same year brought a European tour alongside Róisín Murphy. After returning to the studio for further work, they released the Detune EP in 2016 while continuing live dates and developing material for a first full-length album. Echo Saw You arrived as the opening single at the start of 2017, followed by a measured cover of Nena’s ’80s classic 99 Luftballons. Their debut album Tear the Roots appeared that September.
