Biography
Country singer and songwriter Karen Waldrup put out her debut independent album in 2009. Almost ten years afterward, she delivered her first proper full-length effort, Justified, to a loyal audience she had built through persistent effort. That following grew not only from live performances but also from her presence on reality television and across social platforms, where fresh videos, streaming singles, and regular updates steadily widened her reach and helped launch the warmly received record.
Raised in the New Orleans suburb of Mandeville, Waldrup began performing as a youngster and took up guitar at age 16. She later enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a marketing degree before relocating to Nashville in 2008 to chase a country-music career. Her first release, With Love, Karen, came out in 2009, followed by a self-titled EP in 2010. She next appeared on Bravo’s music contest Platinum Hit, remaining on the program for three weeks, and issued another EP, The Beginning, in 2012.
In 2015 Waldrup reached the finals of Nashville Rising Star and subsequently released the EP Getaway. The following year “I Got That Kind of Time” gained traction on CMT as part of a run of digital singles that also featured “Start a Scandal.” “Warm in Your Sunshine,” the lead single from Justified, entered the charts in September 2017 and set the stage for the album’s arrival the next July, when it peaked at number 26 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums tally.
