An internationally recognized creator of therapeutic compositions and an early advocate within the women's spirituality movement, Kay Gardner guides audiences along an uplifting path exploring the restorative and metamorphic elements of music and sound, while sharing perspectives on their beginnings, enigmas, and applications within therapeutic contexts.

Her numerous recordings for the Ladyslipper label have employed acoustic instruments guided by the concepts of droning, toning, mantra, and chant; harmonics as a stairway to the spiritual; rhythm functioning as pulse; and melody as the heart and soul of music.

She has contributed articles to multiple professional music journals, Women's Music and Culture outlets, and spirituality sections. Workshops on the therapeutic qualities of music and sound are taught regularly by Gardner at the Omega Institute of Holistic Studies, and invitations to medical schools, among them Yale, have allowed her to share her perspectives. Extensive study of the topic informed her volume Sounding the Inner Landscape: Music as Medicine. Ourobourosa, an oratorio scored for soloists, a 40-piece orchestra, and a 100-voice chorus, appeared in 1994. Drone Zone followed in 1996. Dancing Souls arrived four years afterward.
