Canadian singer/songwriter Lauren Spencer-Smith transitioned from her time as an American Idol alumna to international pop sensation status in 2022 after the heartbreak anthem "Fingers Crossed" achieved widespread success as a hit single. Additional tracks such as "Flowers" and "Narcissist" set the stage for the arrival of her first full-length project, Mirror, in 2023.

The British-born, Vancouver Island-based performer reached age 16 before competing on the 2020 edition of the long-running singing competition, where she finished inside the Top 20. Still in 2020, her earlier 2019 release Unplugged, Vol. 1 received a Juno nomination for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year. During 2021 a demo version of the breakup ballad "Fingers Crossed" surfaced online and quickly turned viral. Spencer-Smith entered the mainstream the following year through the official studio recording of "Fingers Crossed," which entered the charts across ten countries and claimed the top spot in both Ireland and Norway. Her heartbreak ballad "Flowers" later matched much of that same reach. Continued momentum arrived via releases including "Narcissist" and "That Part," all of which joined the prior hits to form the core of Mirror. The emotional, autobiographical album arrived in July 2023 and rose to number 45 on the Canadian album chart as well as number 49 in the U.S.
