The recording alias shared by Berlin video artist Fabian Grobe (b. 1970, Hannover, Germany) and behavioural artist Markus Schöbel first surfaced through early placements on compilations mixed by Michael Mayer for Fabric 13, Tobias Thomas for Smallville, Headman for Dance Modern, and Boris Dlugosch for Bionic Breaks. In 2004 the pair delivered their self-titled debut album, whose sleeve art deliberately resembled frayed speaker cable. The duo has stated that “Ultimately, most of our stuff is deliberately intended to encourage ass-shaking,” a claim consistent with their profane strain of tech-house. At the same time they have insisted, “we are trying to find new facets to deep dance music,” while conceding, “At the same time, we are cultivating all our bad habits.” Their track “Mandate My Ass” recast Gil Scott-Heron’s commentary on Reagan-era politics as a suggestive come-on, whereas “Love Me” drove forward on relentless pulses and throbs underscored by a female vocal repeating the title phrase. “All Day” began with the sampled line “I’ve been feeling really horny all day,” and “Love Game” evoked the resurrection of Barry White on a German techno floor. Le Dust Sucker have supplied remixes for Afrika Bambaataa and seen their own material reworked by Anders Ilar, Askesian Society, and Dominik Eulberg.
