Drawing their moniker from the thunder-voiced herald of Greek myth, Les Stentors emerged as an operatic quartet that gained recognition through interpretations of vintage French chansons rendered in classical-pop arrangements. Baritones Vyanney Guyonnet and Sebastien Lemoine joined tenors Mathieu Sempere and Mowgli Laps in 2010, their formation shaped by the music of Mozart and Berlioz, the songwriting of Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour, and the innovations of U2 and Björk. The group issued its self-titled debut album in Switzerland that same year, then returned in 2012 with Voyage en France, which climbed to the top of the domestic charts; the set assembled regional French material such as Pierre Bachelet’s “Les Corons” and I Muvrini’s “A Voce Rivolta.”
