Biography
Joyce Jonathan entered the world on November 3, 1989, already displaying an early gift for music that would soon define her path. She first touched piano keys at the age of five and added guitar to her skills several years afterward. Songwriting entered her life by age eleven. In 2007 she began uploading her own recordings to MySpace, and by 2009 she felt ready to send demos to My Major Company, the French online platform that lets emerging artists release material directly to listeners while inviting fan support. The site placed several of her tracks online; the positive reaction generated enough funding through site donations for her to complete a debut album.
Her initial single, “Je Ne Sais Pas,” surfaced online in December 2009. Its clear, sweet voice and emotionally resonant lyrics quickly attracted a wide listenership. Working with producer Louis Bertignac, Jonathan finished the album Sur Mes Gardes, which reached stores in January 2010. Five months later the project earned a Gold disc, and her growing reputation led to performances at France’s most notable concert halls.
