Biography
Emerging from Venissieux, a suburb of Lyon, where she was born in 1978, French-Martinique vocalist Louisy Joseph quit school at 15 to chase her musical goals and soon earned membership in L5. The girl band had been assembled during the first season of France’s Popstars in 2001, and it topped the charts with both its debut single and album before breaking up five years afterward. Rejecting the sugary style of that earlier group, Joseph embraced a blend of soul, acoustic pop, and reggae on La Saison des Amours, her debut solo album issued in 2008 and produced by Pascal Obispo. After opening for Christophe Maé on his European tour, she joined forces with producer Jean Lamoot, whose credits include Alain Bashung, and recorded a duet with Jason Derulo for her second album, Ma Radio, released in 2012.
