Biography
Born Tamara Marthe on November 28, 1985, in Trappes, the future R&B chanteuse Shy'm received singing and dance instruction throughout childhood. After completing her schooling at seventeen, she produced an early demo tape and headed to Paris, where she connected with rapper K-Maro. He invited her to appear on “Histoire de Luv,” drawn from his 2005 sophomore release Million Dollar Boy. She chose the performing name Shy’m to evoke both her reserved nature and her father’s Martinique heritage. Her debut album, Mes Fantaisies, arrived in 2006 and quickly climbed into the French Top Ten, delivering the Top Five singles “Femme de Couleur” and “Victoire.” K-Maro produced and co-wrote every subsequent project. Reflets, issued in 2008, leaned further toward dance sounds, whereas the 2010 set Prendre l’Air embraced electropop and surfaced in several editions. Caméléon, released in 2012, became her greatest commercial achievement by reaching number one on the French charts.
