Ycare, a French pop singer and songwriter born Assane Attié on September 21, 1983, in Dakar, Senegal, first attracted widespread attention in 2008 through his participation as a contestant on the sixth season of the reality television series Nouvelle Star, where he placed fourth overall behind winner Amandine. Early exposure to music led him to master the guitar and harmonica during childhood, while his artistic references span French chanson icons Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg alongside British rock acts such as Radiohead and Muse. His run on the program culminated on May 28, 2008, when he delivered interpretations of Juliette Gréco’s “Déshabillez-Moi” and Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” during the quarterfinal round. The strong impression left by his performances prompted Sony Music’s Jive imprint to sign him, resulting in the 2009 release of his debut full-length album Au Bord du Monde. Crafted with Matthieu Mendès and produced by Olivier Lude, the record climbed to number 21 on the French albums chart and yielded the singles “Alison” and “J’y Crois Encore.”
