Biography
Hailing from South Carolina, Lil' Ru described his approach as a "gumbo of crunk, snap, and other popular Southern rap styles." His first real opening came in 2001 while still a teenager, after fellow Palmetto State resident Angie Stone took him on as a protégé and arranged a contract with Elektra Records. Although subsequent label turmoil postponed his wider recognition, the MC kept turning out regional standouts, his rolling drawl nearly as raspy as Lil Jon's. In 2009 he resurfaced on Capitol Records, scoring a breakout single with the strip club-focused "Nasty Song" from his debut album 21 and Up.
