Biography
Vocalist, songwriter, and worship leader Lisa Page Brooks, also known as Lisa Page, brings a commanding alto to her soulful performances. She first drew widespread notice as part of the contemporary gospel quartet Witness, an ensemble nominated for both Grammy and Stellar Awards. After departing the group in the late 1990s, she built a thriving solo career that yielded four Billboard-charting albums: More Than You’ll Ever Know in 1997, the self-titled Lisa Page Brooks in 2001, Strong in 2009, and Ready in 2013.
Born and raised in Detroit, Brooks entered a musical household as the daughter of Charles Warren Harris, who performed with the renowned Motown act the Monitors. During her youth she and her sister Laeh sang locally as the gospel duo the Voices of Eden, gaining early stage experience.
An invitation in 1986 to attend a Witness rehearsal resulted in her joining the newly assembled quartet. Producer and songwriter Michael Brooks had created the group as a counterpart to his all-male gospel ensemble Commissioned, and Witness quickly became a platform for Brooks, whose throaty yet resonant voice propelled singles such as “Safety,” “Clap Your Hands,” “Resting in Him,” and “Standard.” The quartet earned several honors during this period, including a 1991 Grammy nomination for Best Group/Duo, a 1991 GMWA Excellence Award for Best Group, and a 1993 Stellar Award for Best Performance Group/Duo.
Lisa and Michael later married, and in 1997 they introduced her solo career with the release of the critically praised debut More Than You’ll Ever Know, which Michael produced. The album earned nominations for Best New Artist at both the 1997 Dove Awards and the 1997 Stellar Awards. Four years afterward she issued her second album, Lisa Page Brooks, again under her husband’s production.
Brooks returned in 2009 with her third studio project, Strong, which contained the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart-topper “I Just Want to Say Thank You.” Two years later the compilation Hidden Treasures: The Best of Lisa Page Brooks appeared. In 2013 she delivered her fourth album, Ready, featuring the single “God Thing” along with production by her son Justin Brooks and vocal arrangements by her daughter, vocalist Tasha Lockhart.
Subsequent years found Lisa and Michael concentrating on their ministry at Restoration Fellowship Church International in Detroit. Following Michael’s death in July 2024, Lisa shared the spontaneous recording “The Grateful Chant,” a moment of grief and healing captured in service that quickly amassed millions of streams and views.
