Biography
Logan Halstead crafts country songs whose tone reflects the insights and hardships common among Appalachia's working-class communities. His birthplace is Powell County, Kentucky, among the foothills of the Eastern Appalachian Mountains, yet he spent his upbringing in Boon County, West Virginia. Aligning with the grounded approach of area peers Tyler Childers, Cole Chaney, Chris Stapleton, and Sturgill Simpson, he put out his first single, "Dark Black Coal," in 2020. The track Halstead first offered the public at age 17 quickly spread online to reach millions of views, securing him a featured role on Arlo McKinley's "Back Home," a support billing with Zach Bryan, and a contract through Thirty Tigers. Lawrence Rothman, whose credits include Angel Olsen, Amanda Shires, and Margo Price, shaped the artist's opening full-length effort, likewise titled Dark Black Coal, which surfaced in 2023.
