Luke Elliot, an Americana singer and songwriter originally from New Jersey, developed his dark, brooding tone and narrative approach under the influence of Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave, yet secured his first substantial audience in Norway.

He entered the world in 1984 in Princeton, New Jersey, as the child of a poet and an English-language professor, and spent his childhood in nearby Lawrence Township amid a household devoted to music. Piano lessons began for him at eight; a Jimi Hendrix cassette from his older brother later sparked an interest in rock and prompted him to pick up the guitar. Songwriting commenced in his early teens, after which he left college to chase a professional path in music. Odd jobs supported him while he concentrated on composing, performing, and issuing his first recording, the 2010 EP Death of a Widow.

Additional notice arrived when he supplied the title track for the film Benny the Bum, honored as best local film at the 2012 Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. An introduction to Christa Shaub, once Rihanna’s manager, followed; she urged a relocation to New York and issued his next EP, Provisions, in 2013 on her own imprint. Momentum was building when an unplanned encounter with a prominent journalist resulted in coverage in Norway’s largest daily paper, rapidly creating an unexpected Norwegian following. Having never left the United States, Elliot journeyed to Norway, assembled a band, performed across the country, and cut his debut album, Dressed for the Occasion, with producer John Agnello. Issued in 2015, the record prompted extensive European and international touring that met with strong approval.

He eventually settled in Norway, where he married a Norwegian woman and started a family. His second full-length release, The Big Wind, appeared in 2020.
