Exploring themes of sexuality, gender, social issues, and modern club culture, Lynks delivers wry, eccentric, and often comedic lo-fi industrial pop steeped in drag-inspired theatricality.

Elliot Brett came into the world in South London in 1997. An early fixation on music took hold during Brett's teenage years, prompting earnest post-dubstep compositions in the vein of James Blake alongside theatre writing while studying psychology at Bristol. A spontaneous, disorderly, and comedy-laden performance at a friend's house party in 2018 prompted Brett to invent the Lynks Afrikka persona, departing from the austere character of prior work. This flamboyant, Leigh Bowery-influenced figure drew its name from a knowing nod to a men's deodorant that dominated the U.K. market in the mid- to late '90s and quickly gained traction on the Bristol gay scene, where the act frequently appeared with the exuberant yet under-rehearsed Shower Gels dance troupe.

After completing studies in 2019, Brett returned to south London and assembled a debut release, the self-produced Lynks Afrikka EP. Released in July 2020 under the playfully ironic title Smash Hits, Vol. 1, the record introduced a lighthearted strain of raw electronic pop whose lyrics blended wit with fresh perspectives on everyday subjects. By year's end the name had been trimmed to Lynks, coinciding with the release of the sardonic single "On Trend" and support slots for Goat Girl and Scalping. January 2021's Smash Hits, Vol. 2 featured Shame's Charlie Steen on the track "This is the Hit." Additional 2021 collaborations included a guest vocal on Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes' "Go Get a Tattoo," which led to a November tour with the punk outfit, and the joint single "BBB" with Grove. The third EP, MEN, arrived in April 2022 ahead of appearances at End of the Road in Wiltshire, Ritual Union in Bristol, and Amsterdam's indiesleaze festival. Festival activity intensified throughout 2023, which also yielded the singles "Use it or Lose It," "New Boyfriend," and "(What Did You Expect From) Sex with a Stranger." These tracks joined the new year's "CPR" and "Tennis Song" on the April 2024 debut album ABOMINATION.
