Macy Kate first built her reputation online as a cover performer before expanding into original songwriting in the pop realm, where she also gained notice as a reality personality. Born in 1998, she began classical piano studies at five in her native St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2011 she relocated to Atlanta to become part of an all-girl group that ultimately disbanded without momentum, leading her to audition for The X-Factor; she was eliminated before the live shows. She next competed on the debut season of Rising Star, finishing ninth and attracting modest attention. After settling in Los Angeles in 2015, she collaborated with Kurt Hugo Schneider on a cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” that spread rapidly online. A 2016 conference showcase brought her to the attention of Flo Rida, who enlisted her as a backing vocalist for his tours; the arrangement ended after roughly two years when she chose to focus on solo work. In 2018 she joined the rosters of Tribeca Music Group and EMPIRE, and her first EP, Cry for Help, followed in 2020.
