Biography
Mally Mall, the Brazilian-Egyptian producer and rapper working in hip-hop, first reached a larger audience after Drake gave him a nod on the track “The Motto.” Raised in California under his given name Jamal Rashid, he developed an early love of music and drew heavy influence from Bay Area figures such as Rick Rock and Ant Banks. A deal with Empire Distribution followed, bringing his initial production assignments on Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Thug Stories and Strength & Loyalty. He later stepped into an executive position, founding the imprints Mally Mall Music and Future Music. The roster under his guidance supplied beats and recordings for Chris Brown, Drake, Usher, Snoop Dogg, and Lupe Fiasco. Although his early work stayed mostly out of the spotlight, Drake’s lyrical mention and Mall’s on-screen role with then-girlfriend Nikki Mudarris on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop lifted his visibility. He subsequently moved further into performing, issuing the hit singles “Where You At” with French Montana, 2 Chainz, and Iamsu, “Purpose” featuring Rich the Kid and Rayven Justice, and “Physical” featuring Jeremih and E-40.
