Emerging as one of the foundational figures in Atlanta’s innovative trap movement, Rich the Kid shifted from early partnerships with Migos, Young Thug, and other local voices to founding his own imprint only a few years afterward. His approach aligned closely with the shadowy, tightly wound delivery favored by other Atlanta rap heavyweights, and a steady sequence of mixtapes and singles eventually secured a contract with Interscope Records, the multi-platinum 2017 single “New Freezer,” and the Top Five charting albums The World Is Yours (2018) and The World Is Yours 2 (2019). His third studio album, Boss Man, appeared in 2020; the following year he joined veteran rapper Lil Wayne for the joint mixtape Trust Fund Babies. Further successful pairings with Takeoff and Lil Tjay arrived in 2022 and 2023, after which he joined ¥$ on the chart-topping 2024 single “Carnival.”

Born Dimitri Roger in New York City, he relocated to Atlanta during his teenage years and first performed under the name Black Boy the Kid before adopting his current moniker. Shaped equally by both cities, his style drew from Nas, Tupac, and Notorious B.I.G. as well as T.I. and Jeezy. Following his debut mixtape, 2013’s Been About the Benjamins, he aligned with fellow Atlanta artists Migos. Together the group issued the three-part Streets on Lock series across several years, with a fourth installment, Still on Locks, arriving in 2015. His next solo effort, Feels Good to Be Rich, landed in 2014 and featured appearances by Young Thug, Kirko Bangz, Soulja Boy, Riff Raff, French Montana, Kodak Black, and Yo Gotti. As his profile rose locally, he linked with Fetty Wap for the Zaytoven-produced single “Keep It 100,” which quickly surpassed two million streams.

In 2016 he established Rich Forever Music and issued four mixtapes that year, among them two compilations spotlighting artists on the roster. That summer he signed with 300 Entertainment and released the Young Thug collaboration “Ran It Up.” Early in 2017 Rich the Kid moved to Interscope while continuing to drop projects, including the third Rich Forever installment with Jay Critch and Famous Dex. Additional singles that year included “Pissed Off” with Delivery Boys, “Cocaina” with Captain Cuts and Daniels, and the double-platinum “New Freezer” featuring Kendrick Lamar. In 2018 he appeared on Charlotte Devaney’s “Avocado” and later issued his own track “Plug Walk.” Both songs appeared on his first full-length, The World Is Yours, which entered the Billboard 200 at number two in March.

Scarcely had the debut settled before he offered the follow-up single “Leave Me.” The World Is Yours 2, led by “Splashin,” arrived in March 2019 and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. Rich, Critch, and Dex reconvened for Rich Forever 4 by the end of August. His third studio album, Boss Man, surfaced the next year and found Roger exploring melodic trap and drill alongside guests ranging from Post Malone to Nicki Minaj; it reached number 24 on the Billboard 200 and number 14 on the Top Rap Albums chart. After closing 2020 with the collaborative mixtape Nobody Safe alongside YoungBoy Never Broke Again, he departed Republic and signed with independent Rostrum Records, where he released the single “Richard Mille Patek.”

October 2021 brought Trust Fund Babies, a ten-track project with Lil Wayne that included a lone guest verse from YG. Much of 2022 centered on features and joint tracks such as “Crypto” with Takeoff and “Holy Trinity” with Arizona Zervas, while Rich closed the year with the solo cut “Motion.” Activity continued in 2023 through the Lil Tjay collaboration “Do You Love Me?,” the Luh Tyler track “BIg Pimpin’,” and the introspective solo release “Never Change.” Early 2024 saw Rich and Playboi Carti guest on ¥$’s chart-topping single “Carnival.”
