Biography
Polo G built a catalog of multi-platinum releases through a mix of drill-rooted aggression and melodic introspection. After periods of incarceration in Chicago facilities, the unsigned teenager began uploading tracks and visuals that quickly circulated online. One of those early releases, the reflective “Finer Things,” accumulated tens of millions of streams and cleared a path to Columbia Records. The accompanying 2019 debut album, Die a Legend, entered the Billboard 200’s upper tier. Follow-up projects improved on that placement: The Goat arrived at number two in 2020, while Hall of Fame opened at number one the next year. “Distraction” extended his Hot 100 presence into the Top 40 in 2022, and “Angels in the Sky” served as the lead single before Hood Poet, his fourth studio set, appeared in August 2024.
Born in 1999 inside Chicago’s Cabrini-Green housing development, the artist was already writing verses as a teenager. His first uploads surfaced in 2017, yet momentum arrived only after he committed the motivational lyrics of “Finer Things” to tape following his release. The clip spread rapidly, prompting Columbia to offer a contract. In 2018 he issued “Hollywood” and “Gang with Me,” then opened 2019 with “Pop Out,” a Lil Tjay collaboration that reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Polo G alternates between stark drill beats and smoother R&B textures depending on the track. “Battle Cry” exemplified the former mood before Die a Legend landed in June 2019. Critical notices were favorable, and the project performed strongly on the charts. Within weeks he followed with the standalone single “Inspiration.” The Goat, released in May 2020, again featured high-profile guests—Lil Baby, Stunna 4 Vegas, and Juice WRLD—alongside production from Mustard and Mike WiLL Made-It, ultimately peaking at number two.
“GNF (OKOKOK)” prefaced the June 2021 arrival of Hall of Fame, which included the number-one single “Rapstar” and guest verses from Young Thug, DaBaby, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. The set debuted atop the Billboard 200. Early 2022 brought “Distraction,” which peaked at number 39 on the Hot 100 and number seven on both the R&B and rap charts. Additional releases that year encompassed a featured turn on PGF Nuk’s “Waddup” as well as “Bag Talk” and “My All.” In 2023 he joined Future for “No Time Wasted” and appeared on Diplo’s “Heartbroken.” “Barely Holdin’ On” surfaced in August, followed in 2024 by “Sorrys & Ferraris” and “Angels in the Sky,” the latter two preceding Hood Poet’s number-28 debut on the Billboard 200.
