Biography
Hailing from Alabama, NoCap weaves emphatic Auto-Tuned vocals together with introspective lyrics that examine his upbringing inside a hazardous street environment. A handful of early online tracks paved the way for several viral singles that established his presence. He sustained that traction through the 2019 mixtape The Backend Child, which earned strong notice, and the 2020 release Steel Human. Two years afterward came his first studio album, Mr. Crawford, which reached the Billboard Top Ten. Additional 2022 singles included “Dangerous Girls,” while his sophomore album Before I Disappear Again surfaced in 2024.
Born Kobe Crawford in Mobile, Alabama, he first encountered music near age nine under the guidance of a man his mother was dating. That mentor enabled NoCap and his brother to perform locally as children, blending rap and melody. Once the relationship ended, the aspiring artist stepped away until his teenage years, when he resurfaced with a layered approach that alternated between intricate rhymes and impassioned sung passages. Online releases began in 2017; by the following year “Legend” and the debut mixtape Neighborhood Hero had gained traction. He also joined Atlanta rapper Rylo Rodriguez for the 2018 project Rogerville.
The fully realized 2019 mixtape The Backend Child generated further attention around its poignant single “Ghetto Angels,” which featured guest verses from OMB Peezy and Quando Rondo. Later that year The Hood Dictionary appeared, a 16-track set that reinforced the confessional, gospel-inflected tone of its predecessor and offered a “Ghetto Angels” remix carrying new contributions from Lil Durk and Jagged Edge. NoCap surprise-dropped the 16-song Steel Human in July 2020, drawing appearances from DaBaby, Boosie Badazz, and Lil Uzi Vert. His official debut album, Mr. Crawford, arrived in 2022 and kept outside features minimal aside from Kodak Black and NBA Youngboy; it entered the Top Ten of the Billboard charts. Follow-up singles comprised “Need Someone to Love,” “Went Deaf,” and “Dangerous Girls,” alongside the EP The Main Bird. The 2023 output included “Deadicated,” “Head Doctor,” and the two-song Cuban Links & Drug Habits. Before I Disappear Again, NoCap’s second album, landed in 2024 and showcased Rylo Rodriguez on two tracks along with French Montana, Quavo, and Sleepy Hallow.
