Though his calling card often amounts to a lingering “Yeahhhh Yeahhhhh Yeahhhh” trailing his bars, YFN Lucci has proven himself a capable and adaptable wordsmith who entered the industry officially at seventeen and has since lodged multiple titles on the Billboard 200, among them Long Live Nut (2017) and Ray Ray from Summerhill (2018). He kept that momentum alive in 2020 when Wish Me Well 3, his latest mixtape at the time, also registered on the chart.

Born Rayshawn Bennett in Atlanta, the MC took up rapping at sixteen. One year later Johnny Cinco brought him aboard for a pair of features on the 2014 mixtape John Popi. That same year Lucci affiliated with TIG, which closed out 2014 by issuing his first official mixtape, Wish Me Well. Its follow-up, Wish Me Well, Vol. 2, surfaced in 2016 and carried guest spots from Migos, Plies, and Johnny Cinco. April 2017 saw the arrival of his debut EP, Long Live Nut, which bowed at number 27 on the Billboard 200.

He opened 2018 with the Meek Mill-assisted “Street Kings,” then dropped his second EP, Freda’s Son, in February; the full-length Ray Ray from Summerhill followed in March and became his first release to reach the Top 20. That December he issued the single “Double Up” featuring Rich the Kid. In 2019 the Gangsta Grillz mixtape 650Luc appeared, highlighted by the Trey Songz-assisted “All Night Long.” Before the year closed he unveiled the HIStory mixtape, which drew several contributions from vocalist Bigga Rankin and also included City Girls. February 2020 brought HIStory, Lost Pages, and a few months later the Corona Pack EP arrived with Bankroll Freddie, Boosie Badazz, and YFN Kay among its guests. Wish Me Well 3 closed the year, an hour-long set that added Yungeen Ace, Mozzy, Mulatto, Yo Gotti, and others while landing inside the Billboard 200’s Top 50. In 2021 Lucci released the solo track “I Gotcha” and joined Bandhunta Izzy on “Like Me” as well as Rubberband OG on “Yea Yea.”
