Before achieving widespread recognition in the latter part of the 2010s, Memphis-based rapper Blac Youngsta put out multiple self-released mixtapes. He secured deals with Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group and the major Epic label. His Billboard 200 entries, such as the 2018 release 2.23 and the 2020 collaboration Code Red with Moneybagg Yo, mix intense street-focused songs with more upbeat party tracks. The year 2022 saw the arrival of his third studio album 4LIFE, which preceded a series of mixtapes in 2023, one of which was Black Sheep.

Originally known as Sam Benson in his South Memphis roots, the artist gained local notice both for his budding music career and for putting together the well-attended McMillan Street block parties. These gatherings commenced in 2011 as a tribute to the slain local youth King Craddy. His recording journey kicked off via the Fast Brick mixtape series, which debuted in 2012. A pivotal moment came in 2015 when Yo Gotti brought him aboard Collective Music Group, leading to the release of projects like I Swear to God, Young & Reckless, and F*ck Everybody by the close of 2016. Around this time, he established his personal label Heavy Camp beneath the CMG umbrella.

Advancing to Epic in 2017, Youngsta dropped the full-length 2.23 along with the follow-up mixtape F*ck Everybody 2 in 2018; both charted in the higher reaches of the Billboard 200. The track "Booty" from the album climbed to number 35 on the R&B/hip-hop chart and entered the Hot 100, with a remix version that included contributions from Chris Brown, Jeezy, and Trey Songz. His three-track Cut Up EP came out in 2019, and later that year his sophomore album Church on Sunday was issued. September 2020 brought the Code Red mixtape, a joint effort with Moneybagg Yo packed with trap anthems and energetic collabs, also spotlighting Yo Gotti, 42 Dugg, and DaBaby among others. Following the third installment of his F*ck Everybody mixtape series, May 2022 marked the release of his third album 4LIFE, a 23-song expansive project featuring Pooh Shiesty, 21 Savage, and Luh Kel. Additional 2023 mixtapes from the artist encompassed Bank Appointment, Blac Sheep, and Blac Sheep 2.
