Biography
Hailing from Atlanta, the epicenter of U.S. trap music, rapper Lil Gotit climbed rapidly through the ranks in the final years of the 2010s. Backing arrived from high-profile admirers such as Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, and his guiding influence Young Thug, whose singular vocal approach left a deep mark on Gotit’s own delivery. His first official project, Hood Baby, surfaced in November 2018 and was followed the next year by Crazy But It’s True, which housed the hit single “Da Real Hoodbabies.” Additional full-lengths appeared throughout the ensuing decade, among them the Billboard-charting Hood Baby 2 in 2020 and The Cheater in 2022.
Born Semaja Z. Render and raised on the city’s south side, he entered the rap world early, penning tracks alongside his brother, rapper Lil Keed, including the Atlanta club staple “Trap Bunkin.” The siblings captured their material at home; once Gotit was expelled from high school he turned to music full-time, soon adopting facial tattoos and luxury attire. After featuring on the 2016 Young Slime Mixtape he issued Super Squid the year after. A signing with Alamo Records paved the way for his official debut, 2018’s Hood Baby, which drew contributions from Gunna, Lil Keed, HoodRich Pablo Juan, and others. Early the following year he returned with Crazy But It’s True, earning his first hit via the single “Da Real Hoodbabies.”
While readying his third official album in 2019, Gotit released the mixtape The Real Goat. Hood Baby 2 followed in 2020, entering the Billboard 200 at its final position and marking his initial appearance on that chart; the set featured Lil Keed, Gunna, Lil Yachty, Future, and additional guests. Later that year he appeared on the collaborative A-Team mixtape alongside Lil Yachty, Zaytoven, and Lil Keed, then delivered his own Superstar Creature mixtape. Sustaining a steady pace, he continued to drop one album per year, releasing Top Chef Gotit in 2021 and The Cheater in 2022, the latter including appearances by Ty Dolla $ign and CEO Trayle, among others.
