Chicago rapper Famous Dex first began sharing his hook-driven, Southern-tinged style of hip-hop online during 2015. Several independent mixtapes preceded his initial commercial breakthrough via the 2018 full-length Dex Meets Dexter, after which he waited two years before delivering the follow-up effort Diana.

Born Dexter Gore, Jr. in 1993, he spent his formative years on Chicago’s South Side. Early experiments with music date back to 2012, yet the loss of his mother in 2014 prompted a more committed approach. That resolve yielded the 2015 projects Never Seen It Coming and Dexter's Laboratory; “Drippy Drippy” emerged as a modest success, and additional mixtapes appeared across 2016. March brought a signing to Rich the Kid’s Rich Forever Music imprint along with the release of “Drip from My Walk.” The next year, A$AP Rocky joined him on “Pick It Up,” which reached number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100. Several further singles, among them the Top 30 pop entry “Japan,” paved the way for Dex Meets Dexter, his debut proper studio album, in 2018. Two EPs—Weird vs. Crazy and Dexter 2031—appeared in 2019. Following the June 2020 arrival of the Where's Dexter mixtape, he issued his second studio album, Diana, that October. Longtime associates Rich the Kid and Jay Critch contributed, as did Trippie Redd and Wiz Khalifa.
