Smokepurpp, a rapper based in Florida, first gained notice through his tight association with Lil Pump, channeling the reckless indulgence that defined the SoundCloud rap wave as it broke through in the closing years of the 2010s. The abrasive edge of his initial singles and mixtapes gradually shifted toward a denser, more atmospheric production approach on his debut studio album Deadstar 2, issued in 2019.

Omar Pineiro entered the world in Chicago in 1997 and later settled in Miami, Florida, where he began experimenting with beats in hopes of securing a profitable path in entertainment while avoiding any personal spotlight. After several fruitless efforts under assorted pseudonyms, he started laying his own vocals over the instrumentals once other artists showed no interest in recording them. Drawing from rappers he admired during his formative years, including Lil Wayne, Chief Keef, and Young Thug, he adopted the name Smokepurpp and uploaded tracks online while still attending high school. Friendships developed with fellow artists such as Lil Pump, prompting him to leave school during his senior year once his music gained traction. By the time he turned 18, tracks like “Samsung Jumpin’” and “Ski Mask” had racked up millions of streams, opening doors to international tours and a 2017 recording contract with Alamo, an Interscope subsidiary.

While preparing his first official album, he briefly entertained the idea of performing as Lil Water and released the mixtape Deadstar in September 2017. The following year brought the collaborative project Bless Yo Trap alongside Canadian producer Murda Beatz. He closed 2018 with the single “But I Still Respect Women.” April 2019 saw the arrival of the eight-song mixtape Lost Planet, followed in May by the expanded edition Lost Planet 2.0. In December of that year he delivered his proper studio debut, Deadstar 2, an ambitious effort featuring Lil Pump, Lil Skies, Denzel Curry, Moneybagg Yo, and numerous additional rappers. The cover photograph—Smokepurpp’s head framed by red roses and unsettling baby-doll heads—was styled after an image of Kurt Cobain taken several months before his death in 1994.

June 2020 introduced the full-length Florida Jit, which showcased contributions from established Florida voices such as Lil Pump, Denzel Curry, and Rick Ross, together with rising artists Jack Harlow and Young Nudy.
