Ronny J

Miami-based producer Ronny J builds his sound on dark textures, booming 808s, and eerie atmospheres, establishing him among the wave of rap producers who rose at the close of the 2010s and into the following decade. In addition to crafting beats for major tracks by Lil Pump, Juice WRLD, Eminem, Kanye West, and numerous others, he issues his own projects, among them the 2023 album Charged Up.

Born Ronald J. Spencer, Jr. in New Jersey in 1992, Spencer initially gravitated toward art and architecture rather than music. After moving to the Miami area to attend college, he began exploring production and beatmaking, quickly recognizing his aptitude and aligning himself with the Miami hip-hop collective C9, the crew headed by Denzel Curry. His raw, experimental, and frequently lo-fi instrumentals carried a distinct character that soon underpinned hit flows from emerging trap figures including Lil Pump and XXXTENTACION, while additional collaborations with Ski Mask the Slump God, Smokepurpp, Keith Ape, and others preceded his 2017 signing to Atlantic.

Ronny J delivered his debut mixtape OMGRONNY in 2018 alongside the singles “WOTR” and “Doesn’t Matter.” That same year he handled several productions for Eminem’s Kamikaze as well as material for Famous Dex, Desiigner, Machine Gun Kelly, and additional artists. In 2019 he scored further success through joint releases such as “Lights Out,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Rich the Kid, and “Stack It Up” with Lil Pump. His 2020 solo album Jupiter featured Var$ity, Duki, Machine Gun Kelly, and further guests, while 2021 saw him reunite with longtime associate Lil Pump for the joint mixtape No Name. Throughout this period his production credits expanded to encompass work for Kanye West, Juice WRLD, J Balvin, and others. In 2022 he issued the singles “Hunnaround,” “POUR IT UP,” and the Wiz Khalifa-assisted “ANOTHER ONE.”

Charged Up, Ronny J’s second studio album, arrived in 2023 following a series of preceding singles. The project contained “Emoji,” a collaboration with XXXTENTACION that J described as his final recording with the late artist. He has continued releasing tracks individually, among them the 2024 cuts “Carta de Despedida” with LIT killah and Milo J as well as the solo “Feelin Awesome.”
