Born in Hawaii during 1992, Malcolm Jamaal Davis relocated repeatedly in his youth because his family followed military assignments. He chose the stage name MadeinTYO to reflect the years he spent living in Tokyo, Japan. Observing his older brother Rolls Royce Rizzy, who later recorded as 24hrs and worked as both producer and rapper, Davis formed the Private Club collective in the mid-2010s. His breakthrough arrived with the 2016 single “Uber Everywhere,” which prompted a Warner signing after it spread virally; several mixtapes followed before the 2018 debut album Sincerely, Tokyo.

Davis spent much of his teenage period in Tokyo and settled in Atlanta once high school ended. Early encouragement came from watching his cousin produce tracks at home, while his brother supplied additional guidance on beat-making and performance. In 2015 he established the Private Club hip-hop collective and label, issuing the first material under the MadeinTYO name with the single “I Want.”

National attention arrived the next year via “Uber Everywhere,” the key track on the short mixtape You Are Forgiven. After accumulating hundreds of millions of streams, the song reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 that July and secured major-label distribution through Warner. Follow-up single “Skateboard P,” featuring Big Sean, also earned platinum certification. Another concise mixtape, Thank You, Mr. Tokyo, appeared before year’s end. Two EPs arrived next: the joint project 24Hrs in Tokyo with his brother, then True’s World in summer 2017. His first studio album, Sincerely, Tokyo, landed in October 2018 and included appearances by A$AP Ferg, Blood Orange, and additional guests. In 2019 Ferg returned the favor with “WAM” from Floor Seats, while Davis joined Key Glock and Tay-Money on “Stop Calling.” Further 2020 collaborations encompassed “Square Bitch” with Ferg and the full-length Never Forgotten, which featured J Balvin, Ty Dolla $ign, Toro y Moi, Wiz Khalifa, Chance the Rapper, and others.
