Born Javorius Scott in 1998 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, JayDaYoungan absorbed the sounds of local hip-hop icons such as Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, and Lil Boosie from an early age. He entered the recording scene at eighteen with the 2017 mixtape Ruffwayy, which spotlighted tracks including “Spinning” and “Taking Off” and quickly drew an enormous social-media audience. Additional projects arrived in rapid succession: The Real Jumpman23 later that year, followed by Wake Up and Taking Off in 2018.

February 2018 brought the R&B-tinged single “Interstate,” whose video and streams soon surpassed several million plays. Before the year closed, he issued the mixtapes 23 and the Billboard-charting Forever 23, the latter anchored by the widely streamed single “Thot Thot.” Further collaborations with Yungeen Ace, GlitchMan, and FG Famous appeared alongside the late-December release “No Play Zone.” The 2019 projects Endless Pain and Misunderstood both outperformed Forever 23 on the charts and generated additional viral singles.

Less than a year later, JayDaYoungan delivered his first proper studio album, Baby23, which reached the Billboard Top 50 and featured DeJ Loaf, Moneybagg Yo, and Kevin Gates. Early 2021 saw the arrival of “Zaza” ahead of the mixtape 23 Is Back. On 27 July 2022 the twenty-four-year-old rapper was killed in a shooting in Bogalusa. The posthumous collection Forever 23 2x, issued in February 2023 and containing a single guest verse from FG Famous, entered the lower half of the Billboard album chart.
