Biography
Among the foremost voices in Detroit's trap landscape stands Tee Grizzley. His breakthrough arrived via the debut single "First Day Out," which surfaced on YouTube in late 2016. The track's unfiltered lyricism and gripping narrative style resonated with millions, quickly elevating Grizzley to wider recognition. Months after the 2017 mixtape My Moment appeared, he obtained a major-label contract and embarked on tour alongside 21 Savage. Additional mixtapes and studio projects, among them Built for Whatever in 2021, solidified his standing as a formidable lyricist and defining presence in contemporary rap. The run of charting mixtapes continued when Half Tee Half Beast and Chapters of the Trenches both surfaced in 2022. Further releases comprised the 2023 Skilla Baby collaboration Controversy and 2024 efforts such as Post Traumatic.
Terry Sanchez Wallace, born in Detroit in 1994, first performed as ASBH Tee within the Allstars BallHard crew before serving nearly three years in prison on armed-robbery charges. Following his release, he partnered with producer Helluva on the deliberate, tension-filled "First Day Out." The regional success of the song generated millions of views and streams. This momentum secured a deal with 300 Entertainment under the auspices of Atlantic. Early 2017 yielded several singles, among them "From the D to the A" featuring Lil Yachty. My Moment reached stores in April and debuted at number 44 on the Billboard 200 without guest features. Later singles preceded the December 2017 joint mixtape Bloodas with Chicago rapper Lil Durk.
Activated, Grizzley's first official album, arrived in May 2018 and entered the Billboard 200's top ten. Still My Moment, issued later that year, showcased appearances by Chance the Rapper, Lil Pump, Offset, and additional rap notables. Scriptures followed in June 2019. Executive-produced by Timbaland and featuring YNW Melly and A Boogie wit da Hoodie, the set debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200.
Grizzley opened the new decade with tracks including "Red Light," "Payroll," and, in June 2020, "Mr. Officer," which confronted police violence and included Queen Naija alongside the Detroit Youth Choir. The song appeared on the mixtape The Smartest, released the same month. Landing just outside the U.S. top 20, the reflective project contained contributions from Lil Baby, Meek Mill, and Detroit native Big Sean. In 2021 he joined his brother Baby Grizzley on "Gave That Back." Built for Whatever, his third album, arrived that May, incorporating verses from Big Sean, Lil Durk, King Von, Young Dolph, and others while peaking at number 15 on the Billboard 200.
The hard-edged single "Afterlife" surfaced early in 2022 and anchored the April mixtape Half Tee Half Beast. October brought the conceptual follow-up Chapters of the Trenches. The Skilla Baby collaboration Controversy emerged in 2023. Tee's Coney Island arrived as a full-length featuring Chris Brown, Mariah the Scientist, and Machine Gun Kelly. In 2024 Grizzley appeared on Kash Doll's "Pressin'," issued the solo cut "Suffer in Silence," and united with Future on "Swear to God." October 2024 saw the release of his fifth studio album Post Traumatic, which included G Herbo, Hunxho, J. Cole, and additional guests and entered the Billboard 200 at number 60.
