Lil Reese, born Tavares Taylor on Chicago's South Side, first drew widespread attention through his contribution to "I Don't Like," a ferocious 2012 single from fellow local Chief Keef. While that track climbed toward the Top 20 of Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, Def Jam publicly confirmed Taylor's signing to the roster. Just two days later, the 19-year-old, who went by the self-applied nickname Supa Savage, dropped the mixtape Don't Like, hosted by DJ Drama and Don Cannon. Before the year closed, Def Jam issued the follow-up singles "Us" and "Traffic," the latter featuring Keef, though neither matched the reach of "I Don't Like." Taylor kept working with additional artists such as Juelz Santana along with fellow Chicago natives Lil Durk and Fredo Santana. The 2013 mixtape Supa Savage and its 2015 sequel Supa Savage 2 both appeared on GBE, the Glory Boyz Entertainment imprint started by Keef and Fredo Santana. In 2016, RBC backed the release of another mixtape, 300 Degrezz.
