EST Gee

EST Gee channels the grounded realities of Southern rap by chronicling routine existence in Louisville, Kentucky, while weaving in trap rhythms alongside fresh stylistic turns within the genre. Following the cultivation of a distinctive approach across multiple independent mixtapes, he joined Interscope Records to issue his gold-certified 2021 effort Bigger Than Life or Death. In 2022 he unveiled his first studio album, I Never Felt Nun, a set of taut street-oriented rhymes that occasionally veered into melodic territory thanks to contributions from Future and Jack Harlow. The project climbed into the Top Ten on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/hip-hop charts. That momentum carried into two similarly hard-edged 2023 releases, Mad and El Toro 2. In 2024 the Selfpaid Savage collaboration “NEVER NEED” surfaced.

Born and raised in Louisville’s Newburg section of Jefferson County, Gee secured a football scholarship to Indiana State University as the first member of his family to pursue higher education. His academic path ended abruptly with a prison sentence. Upon release he turned to music in 2017, forming his stage name by pairing the acronym EST—Everybody Shine Together—with Gee, drawn from his given name George. His unhurried yet persistent flow frequently featured a trademark fade at the close of tracks, a trait audible on El Toro, one of two 2019 self-released projects alongside Die Bloody. These recordings arrived around the time his son was born.

After shooting a video in Atlanta in September 2019, Gee suffered five gunshot wounds. Brief hospitalization addressed stomach trauma, while his left eye sustained lasting damage. Having already finished recording sessions for his upcoming project, he issued singles such as “Morals,” “Taught Different,” and “On the Floor” during recovery; all later appeared on the March 2020 release Ion Feel Nun. Early that year brought the deaths of his mother and brother, events that sharpened his resolve to capitalize on the platform his rising career afforded. Within weeks he began granting online interviews about his life and expanding body of work. December 2020 brought I Still Don’t Feel Nun, which included guest spots from Babyface Ray, Yo Gotti, and Jack Harlow.

Following his Interscope signing, the rapper returned with the 15-track mixtape Bigger Than Life or Death in 2021. High-profile guests such as Future, Young Thug, and 42 Dugg appeared throughout. It debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 and number five on the R&B/hip-hop chart, earning gold status shortly afterward. EST Gee sustained his partnership with 42 Dugg in 2022 via the joint mixtape Last Ones Left. The dark, ominous trap collection featured Tae Money, BIG30, 42 Cheez, and additional guests, landing again at number seven on the Billboard 200. Several months later he delivered his debut studio album I Never Felt Nun, which again reached the Top Ten and showcased Future, Machine Gun Kelly, Jeezy, plus other established chart artists. Half a year afterward EST Gee issued the 14-track mixtape Mad, incorporating verses from Kada, Young Scooter, and Boosie Badazz; it peaked at number 25 on the Billboard 200 and number nine on the R&B/hip-hop tally. Five months later came El Toro 2, spotlighting the surging single “Turn the Streets Up.” He also appeared on the 2023 Collective Music Group compilation Gangsta Art 2 before releasing “NEVER NEED” with Selfpaid Savage in 2024.
