Biography
The indie rock group Mashlin formed with ambitions that reached beyond standard pop-punk material associated with Warped Tour lineups, even though its members carried prior experience in that scene. Vocalist and guitarist Aaron Harvey along with guitarist Joe Knipp had previously performed in Agent Felix before crossing paths with Unsung Zeros, an Orlando punk band, during a shared tour. That run fostered an immediate musical connection between the pair and the Zeros’ drummer, Jason Burrows. After the dates concluded, the three stayed in contact and, frustrated with the pop-punk formulas their respective groups were repeating, chose to abandon those projects entirely. The resulting Orlando trio then recruited bassist Glen Wilson, officially establishing Mashlin. Through mutual friends and soon-to-be labelmates Rory, the band met former LFO vocalist Brad Fischetti, who operated the fledgling local imprint One Eleven Records; he offered them a deal and issued their first album, Pushing Through the Seasons, in 2005. Chris Fudurich, known for his work with Nada Surf and RX Bandits, handled production, shaping a sound that merged the group’s emo leanings with the atmospheric approaches of Nirvana, Radiohead, and Foo Fighters, yielding a dreamy indie-rock style occasionally reminiscent of a less theatrical Muse. National performances alongside Mae, the Forecast, Circa Survive, and Mute Math gradually expanded their audience. The band later returned to the studio to complete a second album slated for a summer 2007 release.
