Mazz

Brownsville, TX, served as the origin point for Grupo Mazz when singer/guitarists Jimmy González and Joe López assembled the lineup. Their incorporation of synthesizers positioned the band among the most innovative acts in the genre, fusing longstanding Mexican traditions with contemporary Latin rhythms. The 1978 debut album Mazz arrived with the hit single “Comprendo Mi Amor.” Over the ensuing decades Grupo Mazz established itself as a major presence on the regional Mexican scene, reaching the charts with “Laura Ya No Vive Aqui,” “Porque Te Quiero,” and other releases. In 1999 the principal members chose to pursue separate ventures, creating the distinct outfits Jimmy González y el Grupo Mazz and Joe López y La Nueva Imagen Mazz.
