Biography
Mike Floss entered the world in Chicago in 1991, after which his family promptly relocated to Nashville. The son of respected jazz trumpeter Rod McGaha, he was immersed in music throughout childhood and soon formed his own ambitions, initially pursuing the trumpet in his father’s path before turning to hip-hop. He began performing around his hometown during high school under the name Openmic, later adopting the Mike Floss moniker in the early 2010s once his approach had begun to solidify. His debut album, Don't Blame the Youth, appeared in 2015 after being recorded in Atlanta with production assistance from Ducko McFli; Floss finished the project by seizing studio time whenever possible, often sleeping on friends’ couches or the studio floor while awaiting late-night sessions. Following its release he toured regionally and headlined progressively larger clubs in Nashville. He then issued a series of singles, among them the 2016 track “Kerosene,” produced by Shmuck the Loyal, and 2017’s “Take Yours.”
