Mortician

Mortician, a Yonkers, NY-based duo blending grindcore elements into death metal, consists of vocalist and bassist Will Rahmer alongside guitarist and drum-machine programmer Roger Beaujard. The pair’s fiercely abrasive style remains off-putting to most listeners, yet their track introductions and borrowings from slasher films reveal an underlying morbid wit seldom encountered in a scene that typically favors ominous menace. After inking a deal with Relapse, the band issued its 1993 debut Mortal Massacre, then delivered the 1996 EP The House by the Cemetery and the 1997 full-length Hacked Up for Barbecue. Later efforts comprised 1998’s Zombie Apocalypse and 1999’s Chainsaw Dismemberment, on which producer Desmond Tolhurst also began supplying guitar parts.
