Biography
Moti, a Dutch creator of electronic music, specializes in expansive house tracks that echo the approach of Afrojack and Tiesto. His first domestic chart entry arrived via the 2012 single “Circuits,” which opened the door to prominent joint releases such as “Virus [How About Now]” with Martin Garrix and “Boom” alongside Major Lazer.
Born Timotheus Romme in Amsterdam, he purchased turntables from an acquaintance as a teenager and began practicing on them. After finishing high school and commencing studies in fashion design, he started performing as a DJ in Amsterdam. At that stage he formed the EDM duo Groovenatics with his cousin Yordi Corsten. The pair issued their debut track “Lose Control” in 2007 and continued releasing original material plus remixes for the next three years.
They separated in 2010, after which Romme launched a solo career under the name Moti. Restless and exploratory by nature, he expanded his catalog with festival-scale EDM productions as well as more introspective, melodic pieces suited to headphones. In addition to electronic work he also ventured into indie rock, pop, hip-hop, and a cappella. His initial solo singles, “Circuits” and “Kinky Denise,” appeared in 2012 through a collaboration with Dutch producer Quintino. Tiesto noticed the tracks and signed Moti to Red Light Management; the two then released “Back to the Acid” the same year.
Subsequent partnerships included work with other progressive-house artists such as Martin Garrix on “Virus,” Blasterjaxx on “Ghost in the Machine,” and W&W on “Spack Jarrow.” At the end of 2015 he joined Diplo’s Major Lazer for “Boom,” which also featured Ty Dolla $ign, Wizkid, and Kranium. He kept issuing singles on Spinnin’, among them “East West” with Kenneth G, “Wired” with Jay Hardway and Babet, and “Break the House Down,” included on Tiesto’s 2018 EP I Like It Loud.
